Johanna Vogelsang devoted her life's work to depicting the history of the turbulent times of anti Vietnam war protest and civil rights. As a resident of Washington DC during this period, she marched on the front lines of peace demonstrations, working with Women Strike for Peace and prominent leaders such as Martin Luther King. As a graphic artist, she produced leaflets signs and posters for the movement. Her passion and belief in these efforts translated in her most prolific period of work., with over 100 paintings completed during the period from 1960-1972.
